 Admission Process

  • Who can apply?

Students in their first/second year/third year in circuit branches (EEE, ECE, E&IICE and BME), CSE/IT can apply. Final year and young professionals can apply for the full time research assistant program.

  • What is the deadline for applications?

We follow a rolling admission deadline to help us take time to carefully review applications. You are encouraged to apply as soon as applications open and will close when open positions are filled.

  • What is the interview process after application submission?

Once your completed application is received, we will get in touch with shortlisted applicants within 7-10 days. You will have multiple rounds of interviews.

  • What is the duration of the program?

The duration of the program is from the time of your admission until the end of your 8’th semester for under graduate students. Full time research assistants typically stay at the foundation for 18-24 months before they apply to graduate schools.

  • How important is CGPA for admission?

CGPA is an important factor but not the deciding factor. A candidate with a low CGPA is unlikely to be admitted unless they demonstrate other capabilities in their application. However, this does not mean a high CGPA guarantees an admission in anyway.

  • What are the common tools and platforms used for research at SF?

Language:  C,  Embed C, Python

Platforms: Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Beagle Bone, TI MSP 430, Nordic NRF51822, TI cc2640, ARM Mbed

OS:  Rasbian/Linux, Unix

Compilers: GCC, CSS

  • What are the focus areas in Solarillion Foundation?

Embedded Systems & Internet of Things (IoT) – (Sensors, IOT Architecture,  Human Assist Technologies, Gesture Recognition systems),  Smart Energy-  (Smart Grid/ Micro Grid, Solar PV Systems) , Smart Devices (Device Identification Algorithms, Non-intrusive load monitoring, Intelligent Device Characterisation)

  • I am interested in Digital Image Processing/Neural Networks etc.? Can I apply?

Unfortunately we have limited resources and work only in the areas mentioned above. Hence, our ability to help you wouldn’t be much in areas that are not our focus.

  • Who can my referees be, in my application submission?

Professors in college that have supervised your project work, Faculty Advisors, Course Supervisors, Industry Experts, Head of  Departments, Current Research Assistants at Solarillion foundation could all be your referees.

  • Is there any program fees?


About the Program

  • What can I expect during the program?

The program will give you insights into research in the areas mentioned above. You will be trained to work on research projects in teams with seniors in your areas of interest until the your final year. In your final year, you will be expected to make significant individual contributions in your area of interest.

  • How many hours per week will I have to dedicate for my research work at Solarillion Foundation? Are there specific timings?

Typically it is expected that you might work anywhere from 10-15 hours a week. However, it is flexible enough to accommodate university examination schedules.Though there are no specific timings, students tend to work 2-3 weekends a month at the foundation.

  • What are the broad areas of work at Solarillion Foundation?

Embedded Systems & Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Energy, Smart Devices

  • How will the program be useful for my MS/ M Tech Admissions or study?

The research work carried out at Solarillion will provide you with insights on possible opportunities that you can pursue in your post graduation. Typically our students get admits in Top 50 Universities in USA and Europe.

  • Can I do any other internship in parallel along with the Solarillion Foundation research program, if selected?

The program is quite intense, time consuming  and self contained in addition to your academic commitments. While we would not hold you from doing another internship at the same time, were you to manage your research and project commitments at the foundation you would be strongly encouraged to evaluate the options very carefully before committing.
